Tampa, Florida-- Breaststroke, butterfly, free style- different strokes, but all for the same, great cause.

On May 5, 2012, Pier 60 in Clearwater will host hundreds of swimmers as they take part in "Swim Across America Tampa Bay" to raise money for cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center.

Brooke Bennett, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Tampa native, will be at the event. She is on the organizing committee, and will also host one or two swim clinics.

According to Joe Sirignano, a Swim Across America participant, the cause originally began with just two swimmers, and now, 25 years later, has raised over $40 million for cancer research.

Tampa's event currently has 112 registered swimmers, and is still accepting additional teams and individuals here

Participants have the option of swimming in the one mile or half-mile open water swim events.

Those 18 and older are encouraged to raise a minimum of $500 for the cause, and anyone under 18 should try to meet a contributing goal of $250.

The one-mile event begins at 8:30 and the half-mile event begins at 8:45. All participants should arrive at 6:45 for pre-registration and check-in.
